Summer transfers Summer co-ownership deal resolutions Winter —11 transfers Summer transfers. The deportation of Roma migrants from France was subject of intense political debate in France and internationally in and After two fatal incidents, President of France Nicolas Sarkozy vowed in July to evict at least half of the Romani squatted land camps.Lazio - Roma - Serie A 2010/11 - ENG
The Government of France initiated a program to repatriate thousands of Romanian and Bulgarian Romanias part of the crackdown. Between July and Septemberat least 51 Romani camps were demolished, and France has repatriated at least 1, Romani to their countries of origin.
The deportations proved controversial in the European Union EUwith EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding stating in a September briefing that the European Commission might take legal action against the French government over the forced expulsions, calling them "a disgrace".
In the s, there were 75, people living in slums in France, mainly Algerian migrants. Many were eventually rehoused in banlieuessuburbs of major cities. Slums however began to grow again in the s, when migrants from Eastern Europe arrived. At first, these migrants were seen as refugees, but successive legal measures restricted their rights to housing, work and social benefits.
This forced the now undocumented migrants to squat land and build shanty towns. Inthe state recorded 16, people living in slums across France. A recent law compels local municipalities to provide a camp for these travellers. On 16 JulyFrench police shot and killed Luigi Duquenet, a year-old French Romani man who drove through a police checkpoint.
In retaliation, a group of around 50 people variously identified as Roma or travellers rioted in the small village of Saint-Aignanattacking the police station with axes and iron bars.
The local mayor described the disturbances as "a settling of scores between the travellers and the gendarmerie". Boudouda was alleged to have been involved in a robbery at a casino near Grenoble and prosecutor Jean Philippe claimed the police acted in self defence after being fired on three times. He criticized demonstrations against the police that occurred in both cases after perpetrators were killed while committing criminal acts and wantonly endangering police officers' lives, and in this context he was reported as saying that 'he had asked the interior minister to "put an end to the wild squatting and camping of the Roma" as well as to prevent further destruction by the rioters in Grenoble.
As president, he said, he could not accept the fact that there were Romani camps in his country, and he promised that half of them would be gone within three months. InFrance deported 10, Romani back to Romania and Bulgaria. The next year, at least another 8, Romani were deported up until August.
Sarkozy claimed the directive had been cancelled as soon as the government became aware of it through press reports. He stated that France welcomes refugees and that "we refuse the creation of slums He warned EU governments to "steer clear of racism and xenophobia". Later in the week, EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding called the expulsions "a disgrace", stating in a briefing on 14 September that "This is a situation I had thought Europe would not have to witness again after the Second World War".
She suggested the European Commission might take legal action against France over the matter. The dispute between the French government and the EU Commission was widely thought to have overshadowed the EU summit opening on 16 September According to Bulgarian prime minister Boyko Borisov"There was a big argument — I could also say a scandal — between the president of the European Commission and the French president".
And I hope we can find a better way. Viviane Reding subsequently privately recanted the historical comparison made in her initial statement. Romani NGOs in Turkey protested the French government and what they considered the European Union's weak response to the French government's decision on human rights grounds.
As Romani living in Turkey, we all have equal rights and France should take the example of Turkey on human rights. The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination criticised the crackdown and regretted the "significant resurgence" of racism and xenophobia. From Saint Maud to The Wicker Man here are some British horror movies that are certain to keep you looking over your shoulder for weeks to come.

Written by Jwelch A deeply immersive film at every moment, perfectly capturing the time period and pulling you in right from the start, Roma is a slow and patient drama that you just can't take your eyes off, something that's furthered by exceptional cinematography, wonderful performances, and a slow-burn but deeply emotional story throughout.
Whether it be the small quirks of the family dog, the awkwardly tight driveway next to the house, or the everyday arguments between siblings, it's evident at every moment that this is a film with a deeply personal core, and through all of those tiny details, it helps you to relate all the more to the story being played out before you.
And then we have the story of the maid, Cleo, played beautifully by Yalitza Aparicio. That, combined with Aparicio's wonderfully understated yet endlessly likable performance, allows for Cleo to really stand out on screen, even if she is a woman of few words. You may think at first that Roma is a little slow and a little too quiet, but it's the patient and elegant build-up over the course of the film that really makes it worth it, and particularly in the case of Cleo, we see someone who you may think of as perfectly ordinary, but the film does an incredible job of showing how extraordinary she can be at times.
On the flipside, the film isn't without its darker moments, and while the nostalgia and very intimate portrayal of the family is undoubtedly Roma's most moving element, the story further emphasises the importance of familial bonds through its portrayal of the more difficult moments in life, coming to a head particularly towards the final act.
What's great about Roma is that it isn't a showy drama. Like I've said, it's all about the little things that add up to make it such a moving watch, and even when we do witness some deeply heartbreaking moments, the film keeps its feet on the ground and allows you to retain the same connection with the characters, no matter whether there at the highest of highs or lowest of lows, something that the screenplay does absolutely amazingly. The other most noteworthy part of Roma is its incredible visuals.
Black-and-white cinematography is always used for a reason nowadays, and crafting a nostalgic vision of the past is one of its strongest suits, as is clearly proved here. What's more, however, is that the rather bright and stark contrasts of the black and white on screen are clearly indicative of the joys and suffering in both this family and the wider community's lives, and the use of that simple yet striking colour pallette from the start really helps to establish an atmosphere that allows for both immense joy and deep heartbreak to really move you.
Also, in keeping with the understated tone, the film features some beautifully elegant camerawork that further immerses you in the setting, with slow yet dynamic pans across rooms and city streets, starkly powerful long take sequences, and a continual focus on Cleo, keeping her in frame for the majority of every scene she's a part of, further deepening the emotional connection with her that makes the story so engrossing.
Briefly, if I were to have one problem with Roma, it would be that it's not the most widely accessible film. Contemporary politics and culture of course play a role in the story, however Roma is a film that focuses on a more normal story that ends up passing through moments of wider significance.
Overall, it's far better that it does exactly that, as it cements the deep intimacy you feel with the characters on screen, further immersing you in the time period, but like me if you're not of Mexican heritage, or are rather unaware of what was going on during the early s in the country, then the film can often prove a little inaccessible to really get to grips with.
On the whole, however, Roma is a truly wonderful film that surpasses so many others in its use of nostalgia and memory, totally immersing you in its time period, and allowing you to develop an unbreakable emotional bond with its main characters, particularly Cleo, played in beautifully understated fashion by Yalitza Aparicio, and furthered by endlessly elegant visuals, the film is a deeply engrossing watch from start to finish.

And when she goes to Rome to attend her sister's impromptu wedding and after meeting the best man, Nick, she's attracted to him but after seeing him with another woman, she gets drunk and goes into the famed Fountain of Love and takes some coins thrown by people looking for love.
When she goes back to New York four men start coming onto her. And Nick keeps calling her asking her out. She later learns that what she did--is a no no. It seems legend says that if you take a coin out of the fountain the person who threw it will fall in love with who took the coin.
So she has to find a way to break the curse. And she wonders if Nick, whom she likes, is with her cause he wants to or if he is under the spell. Written by rcs yahoo. Well, you may laugh, you may roll your eyes--you may do both simultaneously. Yes, it's a little cheesy; yes, the acting was not brilliant; yes, some of the gags seemed to repeat themselves. BUT, did I enjoy myself? The humor mostly relies on a lot of physical comedy people making blunders and bumping into things I can't say even that the dialogue or the chemistry between the main actors was very good.
But if you already know you're a sucker for romantic comedies particularly heavily humor-laden ones, whether brilliant humor or otherwiseyou will probably enjoy yourself. If you're the kind that is only rather surprised when you actually do find a romantic comedy you like, I really don't think you'll be finding it in this one.
No need to repeat the plot; the trailer says it all. And, really, with as simple a plot as it has, the trailer truly does pretty much say it ALL. In short, it was relaxing and amusing sometimes not the sort of amusing the director was going for, perhapsand I enjoyed getting out of the house to go sit and catch a corny smile. Don't go if your demands or expectations are much higher. Looking for something to watch?
